It's been awhile since I posted on this blog, but wanted to get it rolling again with at least one post each week.
I recently graduated from Virginia Tech and have been distracted from writing, but I have still been enjoying wine on a frequent basis. A few weeks ago I returned to Charlottesville and visited 4 more wineries, but luckily this time the grapes were in harvest and the wineries were much more crowded. Most of the wine was practical and not worth buying, but the wineries looked really good in June with cool temperatures and a beautiful landscape in the background.
The wineries I visited were Veritas, Afton Mountain Vineyards, Cardinal Point Vineyards and Hill Top berry farm and winery. I will do a future post about my visit to each of these places.
I also recently watched
Sideways and this movie quickly became one of my favorite movies of all time. If you do a quick search on movies about wine, you will notice that there aren't very many of them. Luckily this movie is so good, there doesn't need to be any else. It combines knowledge about wine with comedy and drama and does it very well. There is one scene where Paul Giammati (man in the left hand side of the picture) is asked what his favorite wine is (Pinot Noir). He gives a succinct yet honest and convincing description. It's a pretty emotional moment as he is also trying to impress his date, but the one scene sent sales for Pinot Noir up 25% in America shortly after the film was released. Very significant impact for such a small scene in the movie, but the next day I went out and bought some Pinot Noir and really enjoyed it.
